The 16 days of Violence against Gender Based Violence will be launched in Kilifi County on Friday 23rd November 2018.The launch will be held at Matsangoni Primary School.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is adopted from the UnitE Campaign under the global banner Orange the World: #HearMeToo. This brings together all UnitE networks including the UN System, government partners, civil society, schools and Universities, private sector, sports associations and individuals to stand in solidarity with survivor advocates, women’s movements and women’s human rights defenders who are working to end violence against women and girls.
The 16 days of activism campaign is an annual global campaign that takes place between 25th November, which is the international day for the elimination of violence against women to 10th December, which is the international Human Rights day.
The objective of the campaigns for 2018 is to amplify the voices of diverse women’s movements across geographic locations and sector working to prevent and end violence against women.
The campaign also advocates for specific changes within institutions and workplaces, including within the UN system, private sector organisations, education institutions, civil society organisations and governments to promote gender equality and end violence against women.
The Campaign also calls for specific financing commitments in national efforts to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls.
During the Launch there shall be the launch of the HAK1195 national GBV hotline and issuance of Affirmative Action Cheques.
This shall be followed by the First Women Only Run that will be held on the 25th of November 2018 in Nairobi Uhuru Park. The 10km Run shall be flagged off by the CS for Public Service, Youth and gender Affairs, Prof. Margaret Kobia
