The High Level Peer Review conference on women, peace and security will kick off at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi tomorrow October 23rd to 25th.
The High-Level conference will be hosted by the State Department for Gender Affairs in partnership with the UN Women and the Finnish Embassy.
The High Level Conference will be attended by delegates from Somalia, Finland, Afghanistan, Nepal, Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya.
The Cabinet Secretaries for Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs, Prof. Margaret Kobia, Defense; Raychelle Omamo and Interior and Coordination of National Government, Dr. Fred MatiangĂ­ will address the meeting.
The Key note address will be made by Elisabeth Rehn- an Independent Expert on peace building and Crisis management, a former Minister of Defense, and Equality Affairs and Member of Parliament in Finland.
October 2018 marks 18 years since the United Nations Security Council passed the Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security.
The objectives of the High-Level review meeting is to share experiences and provide recommendations on the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) National Action Plans between the peer countries and strengthen the accountability to implement women peace and security commitments.
The meeting will serve as an opportunity to create a platform for women to highlight the importance of their participation representation in mediation, civil rights management and peace building and prevention of conflict and violent extremism.
Another objective of the meeting is to encourage greater participation in national and regional processes through consultations on issues pertaining to women, peace and security.
The meeting also aims to identify and inspire innovative methodologies to advance national implementation strategies and partnerships.
