Hon. Esther Murugi, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Development today officiated at the mini-launch of the cash transfer program in Nyeri central District. During the launch, 750 elderly citizens over 65 yrs old received cheques worth 4.5m.
Each of the beneficiary received a total of sh 6000 being arrears for four months,(1,500 per month). The beneficiaries were from four municipalities of ruringu, kamakwa, kiganjo and mukaro.
The minister was accompanied by Nyeri Central DC Mr Michael Mwangi, Commissioner of Gender and Social Development, Mr Mwakio Righa and senior officers from the ministry headquarters and the province.

Social Protection is policies and actions targeting the poor and vulnerable members of the Society. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing their capacity to reduce extreme poverty as well as economic and social vulnerability.
Cash Transfer is one of the instruments being used to address the needs of the poor and vulnerable persons.
Overall objective of the programme:
• To strengthen the capacities of Older Persons and improve their livelihood while alleviating integrated poverty through sustainable social protection mechanisms.
Nyeri Central District:
