NCCS is a semi-autonomous Government agency established under the children Act.2001.It was inaugurated in Septemeber 2002.
It was started to plan, regulate and coordinate children rights and welfare activities in Kenya. Membership: The council is composed of 21 members:-
- A non-executive chairman appointed by the President;
- The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry responsible for matters relating to children;
- The permanent secretary responsible for matters relating to education;
- The permanent secretary in the Ministry responsible for health;
- The permanent secretary in the Ministry responsible for finance;
- The Permanent secretary in the Ministry responsible for Labour;
- The permanent secretary in the Ministry responsible for Local Authorities.
- The Attorney General;
- The Commissioner of Police;
- 3 persons from Faith Based Organizations;
- 6 persons from Non-Govermental Organizations;
- 2 representatives of the private sector.
- The Director of Children’s Services who is the secretary to the council;
Vision To be a vibrant agency in the realization and protection of the rights and welfare of Children for National Prosperity. Mission To formulate policies, develop plans,monitor,co-ordinate and mobilize resources for the implementation,realization and safeguarding of the rights and welfare of the Child.
