Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable

SALARY AND OTHER BENEFITS
Basic Salary:     Kshs. 10,717 – 12,416 p.m.   
House Allowance: Kshs.3,500 p.m.
Leave Allowance: Kshs. 4,000 p.a.
Leave entitlement: 30 days/year
Medical benefits as applicable in the service       

(a) Requirement for Appointment

For appointment to the grade of Housemistress/Housemaster an officer must have:-

1. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of D+ (Plus) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
2. Be at least twenty one (21) years old; and
3. An aptitude on interacting with and handling disadvantaged and difficult children.

In addition to the above requirements an officer must have the following competencies:

Personal Qualities:

1. Integrity and Commitment.
2. Good knowledge in the field of specialization.
3. Ability to communicate.
4. Ability to support management and get on well with all types of people.
5. Good work attitudes and ability to follow instructions.

Core Skills:

1. Team Playing Skills.

3. Manual Dexterity.
4. Good Public Relations Skills.
5. Execution of instructions.
6. Multi - Skilling skills.

(b) Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist the Housemaster/Mistress in an approved school or Juvenile Remand Home in the day-to-day control of a group of forty (40) children or more;
2. Keeping a progress record on each child in the house/dormitory; and
3. Compiling a monthly report on each child which is to be submitted to the respective Housemaster/Mistress.
