The International day of the girl was celebrated in Emboobut Primary School in Elgeyo Marakwet County. The Celebrations were presided over by the Principal Secretary for Gender Affairs Hon. Safina Kwekwe.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is, “With Her: A Skilled GirlForce”, and thus the International Day of the Girl marks the beginning of a year-long effort to bring together partners and stakeholders in the country to advocate for and draw attention and investments to the most pressing needs and opportunities for girls to attain skills for employability.
Hon. Kwekwe said the empowerment of and investment in girls, is critical for the economic growth of the country, the achievement of all Sustainable Development Goals, including the eradication of poverty and extreme poverty, as well as the meaningful participation of girls in decisions that affect them.

she emphasized that this is key in breaking the cycle of discrimination and violence and in promoting and protecting the full and effective enjoyment of their human rights, and recognizing also that empowering girls requires their active participation in decision-making processes and the active support and engagement of their parents, legal guardians, families and care providers, as well as boys and men and the wider community.
